Preventing Falls
Most children fall – it’s a normal part of childhood. In fact, it’s one of the leading causes of non-fatal injuries amongst little ones. Some of the most common spots kids fall? On the playground, from the stairs, from shopping carts at the mall, from their highchairs, and from their bed/crib.

How to Prevent Falls
Once your child is old enough to walk, start teaching them to hold onto stairway rails and playground safety features when getting around. You should also keep an eye on them while they’re sitting in their walker, highchair, or shopping cart. Even if they’re strapped in, accidents can still happen.

What to Do When They Occur
If your child is non-responsive after a fall, call 9-1-1 right away. Don’t move them if they are unconscious, have trouble breathing, or have a serious injury to their neck, spine, hips, or thighs.

If all seems well, look for signs of injuries, and treat any minor wounds Keep an eye on them for the next 24 hours and be on the alert if they show signs of excessive sleepiness, nausea, irritability, imbalance, or lack of focus.

If you child does fall, and you want to make sure they are okay, book an appointment with a chiropractor. They will perform an assessment to detect trauma to the joints, spine, ligaments, or other parts of the musculoskeletal system.

A chiropractor will also be able to help treat any underlying balance disorders that are causing your child to fall frequently. They will also be able to monitor the spinal health of your child and provide any necessary adjustments. By keeping the spine healthy, balance, and movement issues can be greatly improved.
